Question: Do you feel you have a bit of talent and want to develop it? If so, vocal lessons could be a first step toward really learning how to sing.
You see, your voice is a musical instrument.
So, it needs tuning, just like a guitar or drums to reach its maximum balance.
That’s why I included this post.
It’s meant to give you some insight into the world of vocal training.
Do you really need it? And, do vocal training courses really work? Let’s find what they can and can’t do…
If You Feel You Have Musical Talent and a Voice to Develop, Vocal Lessons Can Help
Let’s face the facts. It’s no secret that singing, dancing, and acting are common hobbies artistic-minded people may take with them through adulthood. And, you may be one of them.
But sadly, not everyone can do these things professionally.
However, these things can still become fun, lifelong hobbies for those who really feel they have a gift for what they are doing.
So, let’s look at the “inner sanctum” of singing lessons…
Voice Lessons and Breathing
First, you can use voice control and breathing technique on a stage or in a shower. But, these singing tools do not always come naturally.
That’s why vocal training is just as necessary as lessons to…
- play a guitar
- the drums
- or read sheet music.
So yes, vocal lessons can be a good idea if you want to sing as well as you possibly can.
What If You Could Sing – But Didn’t Know It?
Some people believe, as a singer, they should have a natural ability. So, voice instruction is not necessary.
In fact, if you suggest they take lessons, they get offended.
But, in reality, there is nothing to be offended about when it comes to vocal lessons.
There’s Oil on Your Land!
I remember a great motivational speaker once say:
“If you had a major source of oil supply in your back yard; but did not know it – You’d get no money or benefit from it.”
For instance, a person with a beautiful voice may never know they can sing.
Or, even someone with a great voice who sings on stage, can improve their singing voice.
With that said, improving the voice does not mean someone who has no ability to sing will become a super talent (though they can learn to carry a tune).
The point is, singing instruction can make a great throat sound amazing – and an amazing throat unbelievable!
What Vocal Lessons Cannot Do…
First, vocal lessons can not give someone a good voice or tone.
Either you have it or you don’t.
Truthfully, most people can sing a little. But, that does not mean they should be singing solos at church.
Most average voices excel in a choir or chorus situation.
Those who have good tone, even if they tend to go flat, can learn how to better manage their voice through the right tutorials.
They learn how to sing on key, even when no one else is doing so.
And, the exercises for learning these “tricks” are easier than you may think.
I Know – Every Time I Talk About a Vocal Lesson, Breathing Comes Up!
You can learn proper breathing with a little practice.
Before training, you may not take breaths at the right time when you are singing – or even when you talk.
When you first learn to speak, you learn how to breathe while expelling sound.
But, if you learn from a parent that does not breathe just right, you may learn breathing incorrectly.
This leads to singing from your throat instead of pulling air up from your lungs.
So, not only do vocal lessons help those who love to sing; it also helps those who think they have a problem with speaking voice. That’s why singing lessons can be a great help.
Where to Find Vocal Training Lessons..
If your town or city sports a performing arts center, you may find some help with music there.
If not, keep cool. There are other options.
Look for singing lessons online or in your local paper for ads from teachers who offer singing training from their home.
Alternately, find vocal training software, free singing tips online , or music books.
Some lessons teach musical scales and other formations for singing on your own.
But remember, it takes longer to learn this stuff on your own. However, with some effort, and a lot of practice, you can do it.
When going it alone, have a friend, or family member work with you. Or, at least find someone who is trained in music help evaluate whether you are progressing in your lessons.
Oh, did I mention it’s karaoke night at the club?
Before you go, consider a few vocal lessons for effect.
